Demigods

I was literally struck by these seeds at the Berlin Botanical Garden. I was immediately certain that I was in front of ceremonial masks, mother goddesses. I immediately imagined them emerging from a ceremonial masks, a mother goddesses, and I imagined light, like a divine breath that gives life to matter.

In this work, the dilation of time remains constant and consistent. These works are shot in a completely dark environment. Once the frame is set, I illuminate the subject with a series of moving brushstrokes of point light, outlining the subject to highlight its architecture and enhance its primordial power. Each shot takes several minutes to construct, at the end of which the photograph is complete.

In total darkness, light becomes the subject's narrative voice, as in Caravaggio's paintings, in Bill Viola's works, revealing what we normally cannot see but only perceive.
